Exhibitions Newsletter

Lets put the last few months behind us and look forward to the inspirational colours of Autumn.

I’ll concentrate, to begin with, on what’s to come rather than what’s gone. The most inportant item on the WSA calendar at this time of year is the Annual Exhibition. This is our 75th year and our 74th exhibition. Our last exhibition was exceptional so lets try to equal it or even surpass it.

74th Annual Exhibition

The launch of the open call for submissions took place at our monthly meeting on Thursday 12th September. Following that, those of you who look regularly at our website (it is worth doing) will see that all the information about the event is all there, including the submission form and the easy way to pay.

As the closing date for submissions is 17th November, there is plenty of time to sort through works, or even produce something new (oils must be completely dry though). While you’re sorting works to submit please check on the condition of the mounts and frames. Discoloured mounts or unstable, damaged frames can lead to rejection.

Don’t forget your clearly printed labels and mirror plates.

For many of you, you have the convenience of being able to make your submission and payments on-line, Thank you. Go to the Annual Exhibitions Open Call page on the website to make your submission.

If you received a paper copy of this newsletter the dates, terms and condition of entry and the submission form are included for you,

This year’s exhibition catalogue will include information about each artist and an image of one of their works ( sounds good and will look good)

To enable us to do this we need:

A. A short bio about you that’s no more than 300 characters long, that’s including spaces and punctuation.

B. One image only . This must be under 3mb and sent digitally

If you have difficulty completing the submission form, either in paper format or online, and you don’t have anyone to help, gather all your information together, come in to the next monthly meeting , Thursday 10th October, 7pm and you’ll be helped.

If you can’t make the monthly meeting, some of us will be available at the Crossing coffee shop, in Walsall, on Friday 25th October between 11am and 1pm to offer assistance.       Bring all information with you.

Payments – we prefer card – online or in person or over the phone, but can allow cash or cheque.

Please talk to us if you have any problem with any of this.

Alternative WSA Exhibitions

Himley Hall

Another show of excellent 2 and 3D works from society members. This runs until Sunday 20th October (collection day being Monday 21st. 10-12am) Well done to Nataliya who sold a work before hanging could take place. That’s the kind of good news we need to hear. Thank you to all who submitted pieces.

The Crossing

‘The Painterly Set’  A small group of WSA members have a diverse exhibition of about 40 works in the Crossing gallery. It’s on until Thursday 26th September. Well worth a visit.

The exhibitions change on the last Friday of every month so do make regular visits to support and see WSA members work, there have been some stunning exhibitions on this year with more to come.

Exhibiting

The Crossing Gallery is a permanent exhibition space for WSA members to organise solo and group exhibitions Anyone who would like to exhibit next year needs to contact our Exhibitions Secretary Jude Hanly with a proposal ASAP

Pop-up-Markets (A new venture this year)

Our earlier venture was Aldridge Transport Museum in May

Grasmere Garden Centre

Eight of us, accompanied with friends, husbands, partners and dog, set up our stalls at the garden centre looking forward to a good day with lots of visitors and hopefully some sales. The previous two days had seen scores of people visiting the craft fair there so we had high hopes. Hopes that were dashed.

Despite us having put on an exceptional display of individual works we could count the visitors on one hand. There was one sale, a card to a friend!!! Well done Buffy.

Well, we gave it a try, but it may be a while before we repeat the event.     Despite the disappointment of the day I’d like to thank the garden centre staff who helped willingly with transporting all our equipment and works from the car park to our spots
