If you happen to be in London between today and Wednesday of this week try to nip into Sotherby’s Auction House on New Bond St. to view the art works that are to be auctioned on 1st March, 7pm onwards. It is their Impressionist and Modernist Art Evening sale which includes works by Picasso, Klimt, Modigliani, Sisley, Gauguin and Hepworth, to name just six.
Many of the works have been in private collections so this may be the only opportunity to see them as, no doubt, they will disappear again after the sale.
Sotheby’s are estimating sales at the forthcoming impressionist, modern and surrealist auctions will achieve £233 million! Picasso’s ‘Planet de Tomato’ alone has an estimate of £10-15 million.
