NOT TOO LATE FOR US YET!

At the age of 75, abstract sculptor, Phyllida Barlow is the sole British artist representing our country

at the 75th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale,

PB refers to herself as a ‘thoughtless artist’ as ‘things happen without thinking’. She is far from being

a traditional sculptor working in wood, metal or stone. She is more likely to be inspired by materials

found in a builders yard: felt, sticky tape, tarpaulin, rubber, cement, plaster board etc..

It has taken about 50 years for her to be ‘discovered’. After joining the staff at the Slade in the 1980’s

she rose to become professor of fine art. After her retirement in 2009 she began to get ‘noticed’ and

now her small sculptures sell  from around £35,000 to upwards of £140,000 for large installations,
