A Springtime Celebration of Art at Himley
Posted on Apr 04, 2026There’s something uniquely uplifting about stepping into a gallery on a bright spring day — the light, the colour, the sense of renewal. Yesterday’s visit to the Walsall Art Society Spring Exhibition at Himley captured all of that and more. The corridor and gallery walls were alive with creativity, each piece adding its own spark to the season.
One of the quiet joys of being part of an art society is seeing your own work hanging proudly alongside that of your fellow artists. It’s a reminder of the shared passion that brings us together, and of the talent that runs through our group. This exhibition made that abundantly clear.
A few pieces truly caught my eye:
- Susan Mahapo’s stunning Water triptych — a beautifully balanced trio that seemed to ripple with movement and light.
- Baerbel Withers’ delightful Bumble Bee, full of charm and character, buzzing with life.
- Ann Nicholls’ enchanting Blue Bell Wood, a piece that felt like stepping into a quiet woodland carpeted with spring colour.
These works stood out, but they were far from alone. Everywhere you looked, there was evidence of imagination, skill, and the joy of making art.
What a talented bunch we are — and how lucky we are to share it with one another and with the wider community. Exhibitions like this remind us why we create, why we persist, and why art matters.
Here’s to a vibrant spring, and to many more moments of inspiration together.
