Thursday 9th January 2020, Catherine Beale demonstrates for WSA
Posted on Jan 05, 2020‘FAST AND LOOSE IN WATERCOLOUR’.
Our 2020 year is begun with Catherine Beale demonstrating for us.
I met Catherine at a small art/craft show in Bath just over a year ago and I was immediately struck by the way she used colour so vibrantly.
Catherine is an experienced portrait painter and artist specialising in “everything watercolour.
She specialises in light-filled, contemporary, watercolours, experimenting and exploiting pigment behaviours using a method she has termed “gravity painting”.
These cascading techniques enable paints to mingle and run to create delicate veils of colour, as well as collide and interact to create chemical effects.
She is particularly drawn to larger-than-life sized head and shoulder portraits where there is space for cascading watercolours to flow and interact .
Her paintings hang in private collections worldwide, including the Singapore Presidential Palace and have been gifted to HRH Prince Edward by the British High Commission in in Singapore.
She has exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society and Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and is a Member of the Society of Women Artists, exhibiting annually at the Society’s summer exhibition
