Spring with WSA.
Posted on Apr 21, 2023
Our Spring newsletter went out to members a couple of weeks ago, hope everyone received it.
In it was a mention of our invitation to have a one day exhibition at the Walsall Transport Museum on Sunday 21st May this year.
It is an open day for the museum with a free bus service from Walsall town centre so, hopefully, footfall should be good.
We can exhibit works and stay to paint for the day amongst the collection of vehicles. Large tables will be set up for us giving plenty of room to set out equipment and also any merchandise we wish to have on sale.. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be supplied throughout the day. No commission will be taken by the museum for any of our sales.
We have 10 members on the list for painting on that day, it would be good if we had more. Contact me soon if you would like to join us.
Several of us have works in exhibition at present.
Elizabeth Whitehouse has an exhibition of watercolours throughout April at Shenstone Community Library and Coffee Shop. She has three walls of exhibits.
You can enjoy a coffee and homemade cake while browsing, Tuesdays to Saturdays 9.30 -12 noon.
The library can be found just off Main Street, W14 0NF.
I shall be exhibiting there towards the end of June and into July and I think Steve Woodhams follows me. It’s a popular venue.
A ‘Trio of Artist’, me, Pam Renhard, Margaret Jennings and Babs Withers are exhibiting works at the Fingerpost Pub, Pelsall until Sunday4th June. Jean Walker will be having a solo exhibition
there later in the summer
This week ,the exhibition, ‘Ann Hackett and Friends’ went up at Worcester Cathedral. There’s work by Ann, obviously, Elizabeth Whitehouse, Simon Tew, Steve Woodhams, myself and three more
friends of Ann. It runs until Thursday 27th of this month. We’re pleased to hear that it’s already drawn in quite a few visitors
Our WSA Summer Exhibition at Himley Hall is booked for 31st July until 18th September. As this is in the Corridor Gallery we need works under glass to be submitted. At the moment we think 4 works per exhibitor will be accepted. This is a free exhibition as Himley make no charge. We shall be there during the summer holiday season so there should be many visitors. Always a good thing. If anyone wants to exhibit, get in touch with me (prenhard@hotmail.co.uk) as soon as possible with the titles of 4 works.
Some of our members have gone on to take further art qualification as time has gone by. The latest success is the Chair of the society, David McGuire.
Congratulations to David for gaining a First Class Honours Degree in Painting, with the OCA (Open College of the Arts) .
David says, ‘It took me five and a half years, but I enjoyed it immensely and it helped me through the Covid lockdown. Its given me a much wider knowledge and perspective of art as a whole.’
Several of us were lucky enough to see David’s final exhibition. It was impressive.
So, for all of you out there thinking about doing something similar, it’s never too late.
Two of the works from David’s Final.
Wolverhampton Arts Fest is happening during the first weekend of May. Up to now, I know of three of our members who will be having stalls there.
They would love to see you there if you have the time go and support them. Then let me know what you think of the event.
PATCHINGS.
Letter/forms have gone out about our trip to Patchings Art Festival in July. There’s a time limit for returning them if you want to go, 11th May, our next demo evening. Babs is awaiting your response before booking a coach. Please come and bring a friend (or more). DON’T MISS OUT.
If any of you have any news to share, GET IN TOUCH. We need to let everyone know what WSA members are up to.
Pam.
