Posted on Nov 19, 2024Open Call to the 74th Annual Exhibition is Closed!
Last year all the submissions came in mid way through the open call. This year what a last weekend with over 60% coming in in the last two days. Not a weekend I want to repeat, as you had all left it so late and were panicking, many of you had missed things off. I know what it’s like if I’ve forgotten to answer an Open Call, but you do need to set an hour aside to read through the Submission Form and Exhibitors Pack to check you have everything you need. Just to make sure you have your measurements in cms, you know what you want to charge allowing for The New Art Gallery Walsall’s, commission of 35%, and that you have re-sized your picture to under 3mb jpg. I always get my artwork out double check that everything is ready to exhibit, and write down titles, sizes, mediums. I then type it out on a word document on the computer so I can copy and paste it into the online form. Every Exhibition I exhibit in the criteria and order of information is different….
I can’t wait to see all your amazing artworks on Selection Day, so don’t forget to deliver… We had two people not deliver last year and missed out on the chance to exhibit their work. Delivery days are from Saturday 23rd November – Friday 29th December, please look at the exhibitors pack that was sent out for the exact dates and times, which vary.
So before you deliver make sure you have your labels on! One stuck to the back, and a luggage style label, with a long string attached at the back; so it can hang mid way down over the front of 2D work. I always add a letter or Certificate of Authenticity, which tells the buyer a little bit about the inspiration for the work. You need to make sure you have the right fixings for the gallery to hang your work. Mirror Plates attached 1/3rd of the way down from the top of the painting.
Notifications of acceptance or rejection, will be sent out on 2nd December after midday. Don’t be too disappointed if you don’t get selected, we all get rejections it’s part of being an artist. Artwork that doesn’t get into The New Art Gallery Walsall, will automatically be put into the WSA Winter Diamonds Exhibition, at St Paul’s Gallery, The Crossing, Walsall, which opens on 4th January – 31st January 2025.
See you all at the Private view on Thursday 12th December 6pm – 8pm Official opening ceremony and prizes from 6.45pm. There will be a raffle to raise funds for the Walsall Society of Artists so don’t forget to bring some cash or cards with you, or friends that have deep pockets.
