Andrew Tift’s message to Walsall Council.

Local artist, Andrew Tift, has put in his plea to the borough council to retain the New Art gallery in Walsall.

Andrew, who is based in the West Midlands, states that Walsall ‘HAS NOTHING’ without the gallery and he has created the ‘OPEN YOUR EYES’ poster to emphasise his statement.

The NAG, which was opened in 2000 at a cost of 21 million pounds, could be closed by the year 2020 due to funding cuts. This raises the question of what will happen to the Garman Ryan Collection which was gifted to Walsall by the widow of Jacob Epstein, Lady Kathleen Epstein. Also, the Permanent Collection which numbers more than 3,000 works collected since the foundation of the original Walsall Art Gallery in 1829.

Can Walsall afford to lose such a prestigous building and unique art collection?
