73rd Annual Exhibition is Open

At the New Art Gallery Walsall in the community gallery from 15th December – 18th February 2024

It is beautifully curated and hung by Deborah Robinson, Head of Exhibitions at the New Art Gallery Walsall.

Private View – what a night we had a fantastic turn out and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, it was a true celebration of all Walsall Society of Artists creativity and skill. This year we had prize sponsors and invited guests to select the award winning work of art, which made the opening more interesting. Our Chairman David McGuire hosted the evening and it was opened by Birmingham based artist Wayne Attwood, who has artwork in many UK and International Collections.

Landscape Art Award

Sponsored by Jackmans Art Materials and was Selected by Fraser Wood Estate Agents they selected paining “Quiet Reflections” by Pauline Castle, who wouldn’t fall in love with those beautiful shadows of the trees on a quiet summer lane.

Figurative Art Award

Sponsored by Great Art and selected by artist Wayne Attwood who chose “Hippy Chick” by talented Walsall Society Artist, Elizabeth Whitehouse, who said she was “thrilled to bits” with the award.

Animal Art Award

Sponsored by Jacksons Art Supplies and selected by St Pauls Gallery Director, Karen Pincher, she chose “Treading the Paths of the Ancients” by Walsall Society Artist Simon New, he said he was “flabbergasted to win with so many talented artists on display”.

Botanical Art Award

Sponsored by William Wheat and Sons and selected by their Director and Botanical Expert Phil Wheat, he chose “the Ramblers” by Pat Ryan, who unfortunately wasn’t present to receive his award, so we organised for Pat to visit Wheat Garden Centre for Phil to present his award and prize, a splendid afternoon tea for two, at the Wheat’s Waterside Café.

3D Art Award

Sponsored by Jacksons Art Supplies, and is this years Chairman’s Prize, David McGuire chose “Warhorse – To Liberation And Freedom” by talented sculptural ceramicist Gwenda Jones, she said “she was over joyed to win”.

Abstract Art Award

Sponsored by Cass Art, Birmingham Branch, and selected by Broadcaster, Poet and Playwright, Ian Henery, he chose “Spectre” by Walsall Society Artist David Mcguire, who said he was “chuffed to bits”.
