Thursday Quiz Night: Chaos, Colour Theory & Cracking Good Fun

If ever there was a night that proved the show must go on, it was this Thursday’s Quiz Night. What began as a gentle, civilised evening of cultured competition quickly turned into a full‑scale creative scramble — the kind only our group could turn into a triumph.

A Last‑Minute Shake‑Up

Our planned demonstrator had to cancel due to illness, and suddenly my desk transformed into mission control. The keyboard was flying, the printer was practically smoking, and questions were being assembled at record‑breaking speed.

Battling the Weather… and the World Cup

As if the scramble wasn’t enough, the weather decided to unleash its worst, and the World Cup kicked off at the same time. Attendance dipped — understandably — but those who braved the rain (and resisted the lure of football) were rewarded with a brilliantly entertaining night.

A Quiz for the Arty at Heart

Despite the hurdles, the quiz was a hit. We tested our arty knowledge across everything from Renaissance masters to modern colour theory. Debates were lively, questions and answers were… creative, and the laughter was loud enough to drown out even the most enthusiastic football commentator.

A Nail‑Biting Finish

Our teams did brilliantly — so brilliantly, in fact, that only eight points separated the winners from the wooden‑spooners. A huge well done to everyone who took part.

  • Commiserations to The Smilers, who graciously accepted the wooden spoons with good humour.
  • And a big round of applause for The Fivers, who clinched the win and will soon have their £10 vouchers emailed to them.

Friendly competition at its finest.

The Great Colour Debate

And yes — the evening wouldn’t have been complete without a bit of argument: I still maintain that mixing all the spectrum makes black.

  • When all colours of light combine, you get white.
  • When all pigments combine, you get black, because pigments absorb light rather than emit it.

Two systems, two truths!

A Night to Remember

Lower numbers didn’t dampen the spirit. If anything, the cosy crowd made the night feel even more special. It was warm, witty, and wonderfully chaotic — everything our gatherings are meant to be.

Here’s to next month: hopefully with better weather, a healthy demonstrator, and a printer that doesn’t threaten spontaneous combustion.
