Gwenda Jones

Gwenda Jones is a contemporary British portrait and figurative sculptor known for her unique ceramic exploration of human and animal studies, where texture meets form to create deeply emotive works.

Her pieces, ranging from intimate portraits to large-scale sculptures, capture the essence of her subjects with a refined sensitivity and an innate understanding of form. Gwenda’s sculptures often celebrate her lifelong love of horses. This passion began during her early childhood in the rural landscapes of Oxfordshire, where this connection to nature is reflected in the graceful dynamism of her equine sculptures, which evoke a sense of power, serenity and human connections.

In addition to her sculptural practice, Gwenda works with mixed-ability adult courses, where she shares her craft through tutoring and demonstrating sculptural techniques. Working with dementia patients and special educational needs and disability (SEND), she finds joy in empowering her students, young and old to explore their creativity, adapting her instruction to make art an accessible and meaningful experience for all. Her expertise extends beyond teaching, with her pieces exhibited and commissioned for personal, corporate, and outdoor spaces.

“I absorb the world around me like a visual sponge, constantly capturing moments that spark my imagination. I’m always taking photos, making quick sketches, or scribbling notes—often ones I can’t even decipher later- reminders of the images and thoughts that echo in my mind. These ideas evolve in their own time, sometimes taking years or months to fully form, while others come to life in just a few days.”
Before fully dedicating herself to sculpture, Gwenda studied Architecture and Design at Birmingham Central University. She graduated with a BA Honours in Three Dimensional Design, student and open design awards, leading to a distinguished career as a Professional Interior Designer, specialising in commercial and high-end residential spaces. Expertise in balancing art, form, and function within aspirational and luxurious interiors gained her international recognition within design awards and publications. Her background in interior design is evident in the way she approaches sculpture with a deep consideration of how each piece interacts with its surroundings.
Gwenda’s work often draws upon her keen interest in how textures and forms communicate with space. This results in timeless modern sculptures that enhance personal, corporate, and public spaces. Each piece is a celebration and narrative of life, whether human or animal, brought to life with a delicate balance of grace and strength.
In her creative journey, Gwenda continues to inspire through her deep commitment to craftsmanship, professional development, exploration and her ability to capture the spirit of her subjects with movement, emotion and artistry.
